I was in an accident, now what?

The first step is to call your insurance company and report the loss.  They will explain to you what should happen next. At this time, you should receive a claim number from your Insurance Company.  The claim number will help us in dealing with your vehicle.

Can I go to the shop of my choice or do I have to go where the insurance company tells me?

You have the right to have your vehicle repaired at the shop of your choice.

How many estimates do I need?

If the owner is paying for the repairs, only one estimate is necessary from the shop of the owner’s choice.  If an insurance company is paying, they will handle the estimate.

Is the estimate free?

At Schmidt’s Auto Body we offer free estimates.

Who pays the repair bill?

The vehicle owner is responsible for the repair bill.  If an insurance company has a liability, they will be responsible for all repairs that apply to the loss less the deductible if any.

If I have a deductible, who do I pay it to?

The owner is responsible to pay the deductible to the shop.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, bank debit cards and personal checks.

When can I leave my vehicle to be repaired?

You can leave your vehicle as soon as the parts for the repair are at the shop.  We are open Monday- Thursday 8:00 a.m.- 5:00p.m. and Friday 7:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.  If the vehicle was towed in, repairs can start when authorization from the insurance company is given. Is car rental referral service offered?

We can arrange for a rental company to pick the customer up at the shop.  We can make the billing arrangements with the rental company, but the owner is responsible for the rental car bill. If you have rental car coverage the insurance company may be able to pay the rental company directly.

How do I know when my car will be done?

When the car is dropped off at the shop, we will give an approximate date of completion. The shop will keep the owner informed of the different stages the car is in and then notify the owner when the vehicle is done.
